Pendleton Park Receives Grant Funding

Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) today announced that the National Park Service has awarded the Texas Wildlife and Parks Department with a $500,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to assist in the acquisition of 9.85 acres of land for Pendleton Park in Harlingen.

The project includes the renovation and development of numerous outdoor recreation facilities. Total cost of the project is $1,000,000.

"Our community parks and recreational facilities provide families and individuals with an opportunity to get outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer," said Hinojosa. "Anything we can do to maintain, preserve and expand community parks should be supported. I look forward to visiting Pendleton Park and seeing the new facilities first hand."

Pendleton Park is located at the intersection of Morgan Blvd. and Grimes St. It includes 47 acres of land, consisting of 18 lighted tennis courts with pro shop (HEB Tennis Center), park pavilion with barbecue pit, playground equipment, six little league baseball fields, scenic pond with freedom fountain, and picnic tables.
